Factors to Consider When Choosing Your New Home Timber Stairs

If you are contemplating making an investing in your home by installing a timber staircase, then there are some recommended guidelines that you should keep in mind, to make sure that your planned staircase is worth its price.

Here are some things to consider when it the market for a timber staircase:

  • Thickness of timber planks – the thickness of wood used for staircases is definitely important, ask a staircase professional about the proper thickness to use in your home, to make sure that your staircase will be as durable as possible.

Basically, a decent thickness of wood planks will enable your staircase to withstand more than just regular wear and tear, including blunt impact damage, sudden bangs and dings.

  • Hardness – if you want a long-lasting timber staircase, you can choose between hardwoods and MDF – a high-grade composite material comparable to hardwood in many ways. Like hardwood, MDF is strong, but more affordable, which is why many people are opting to use it in the construction of their custom staircases.
  • Availability of material – there are many types of hardwoods available for use in constructing staircases, such as Victorian Ash, Blackbutt, Jarrah, Spotted gum, Mirboo, and pine. However, stocks of these hardwoods may not be readily available, or, the price of these may be more than people wish to pay.

This is why MDF – a composite material made from recycled wood fibres and resins, has become an Eco-friendly and affordable alternative to hardwoods, as it is just as strong as real wood and made to look just like a plank of wood.
